Mad for Mauve Weddings

August 4, 2020 by An Ion Creative Leave a Comment

Who’s Mad about Mauve? We Are!

Our current color obsession has to be mauve. This retro color was super popular in the 80s. “Just as America went avocado green in the ’70s, it turned mauve in the ‘80s,” note Leatrice Eiseman and Keith Recker in Pantone: The Twentieth Century in Color. These days it is staging a glorious comeback.

Is it Pink or Purple?

Mauve is a pale pastel named after the mallow flower. People sometimes debate whether it is a shade of pink or a shade of purple. Our vote is that this pretty hue lands on the purple side of the color wheel. Somewhere close to violet. And we aren’t mad about that.

In fact, we are crushing hard on all the marvelous shades of mauve. These gentle colors are so soft and nostalgic. Just right for an utterly romantic wedding.

We Love A Mauve Bouquet

These luscious floral elements in shades of mauve, purple and cream mix perfectly with greenery. In fact, mauve pairs well with many other colors. Pale pink, blue and grey and even a pop of yellow combines beautifully with the dreamy hue.

However you chose to incorporate this shade, we know it will be an ethereal addition to your wedding day style. Misty, magical, marvelous mauve will lend its whimsy to your event in sweet hints of color. This color will inspire your guests just as it inspires artists, songwriters, painters and poets who do their best to capture its elusive essence.
On the breezes to sink and rise,
Flutters scented bird of paradise,
In the days of mauve butterflies,
They captivate all waiting eyes!

Bittersweet in fate, days go by,
Under the dreaming summer skies,
'Til evening finds beauty's prize,
Now dancing with the fireflies!

Something about soft peach tones is so comforting and joyful. And feminine. And sophisticated, too, somehow. Join us for some Just Peachy Wedding Inspo as we dive into this dreamy hue!

This soothing color story works well for outdoor ceremonies (the best setting for your ceremony with the way things are in the world today.) Peach pairs perfectly with all the lovely greens and browns found in nature.

To complement your luminous peach color scheme we suggest billowy Peach Pampas grass or an arresting arrangement of palm fronds, hydrangea, and baby’s breath:

For your beautiful face, we love makeup palettes that offer a dose of sweet peachy goodness. Like this Baby Got Peach palette, by Colourpop. At just $12 this pastel peach monochromatic set is better than basic. With 9 shades and 3 different finishes, you can create a soft peachy look perfect for your special day:

For your wedding cake, we propose something delicate, like this luscious one layer ombre confection:

For your decor, consider an extravagant display of paper lanterns and streamers. Paper Lantern Store offers a nice array of affordable options.

A collection of varying height vases would be amazing for your tables. And, you could incorporate them into your new home after the wedding:

EQ3 has a stunning selection of versatile ceramic vessels. How neat does that pop of yellow look paired with the peachy tones of the other vases? #idea

Rattan furnishings are a major trend and they would pair well with a peach theme. Incorporate a few pieces around your ceremony site. Our pick, this boho beauty from IKEA:

A signature peach cocktail seems reasonable, doesn’t it? We adore the White Peach + Rose Lemonade Refreshing Signature Drink we spied on mountainsidebride.com (but we might add the teensiest splash of vodka or champagne):

  • 3 cups white peaches, chopped into pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup fresh-squeezed lemon juice (from about 7 lemons)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons rose water

Directions for 4: Place chopped peaches, water, and sugar in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Allow to cook down, about 20 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly, then run through a blender until pureed. Pour peach mixture through a fine sieve and place in refrigerator until chilled.  Meanwhile, squeeze the juice from lemons. Once the peach mixture has chilled in a pitcher combine with lemon juice and rose water. Serve chilled.

To set the tone for your guests, send them invites which hint at your theme, like these Pampas Grass lovelies from Coral Balloon:

And for some final inspiration, we leave you with a pretty (and peachy) poem by James Whitcomb Riley :

The Ripest Peach

The ripest peach is highest on the tree —
And so her love, beyond the reach of me,
Is dearest in my sight. Sweet breezes, bow
Her heart down to me where I worship now!

She looms aloft where every eye may see
The ripest peach is highest on the tree.
Such fruitage as her love I know, alas!
I may not reach here from the orchard grass.

I drink the sunshine showered past her lips
As roses drain the dewdrop as it drips.
The ripest peach is highest on the tree,
And so mine eyes gaze upward eagerly.

Why — why do I not turn away in wrath
And pluck some heart here hanging in my path? —
Love’s lower boughs bend with them — but, ah me!
The ripest peach is highest on the tree!

Beautiful Burgundy Wedding Ideas

August 2, 2019 by An Ion Creative Leave a Comment

Rich and romantic burgundy is one of the most popular colors for wedding palettes. Brides gravitate to the intense jewel tone for its beauty, intensity, and versatility. It can work for any season; Spring through Winter. And, this color selection lends itself to any style wedding from edgy, industrial-chic wedding styles to earthy outdoor ceremonies. Since this hue provides a dramatic focal point for any and all of the details from florals to decor, we’ve rounded up some burgundy inspired options. You can set the tone for your wedding before it even happens by the style and color of your invitations. Give your guests a taste of wine (lol) with these amazing invites by Funky Olive.

One of the easiest ways to incorporate a signature color is, of course, with your bouquet. This one is a decadent composition of exotic florals and dried pods:

This bouquet is a lighter, sweeter side of burgundy since it is paired with paler shades of pink and soft roses:

And we love the drama of a wide bouquet balanced with light and dark colors and loads of greenery:

We think the shade pairs so beautifully with shades of green, pink, peach, and gold like this lavish, luscious tablescape.

The hint of burgundy on this three-tiered naked cake, paired with gold flakes and some pretty leaves sends a major style message:

A giant gilded frame embellished with swags of burgundy-forward florals makes a picture-perfect backdrop.

How lovely is an antique whitewashed mantel staged with an abundance of candles, baskets, and greenery? The few touches of burgundy deliver a punch of color and really pop against the other elements. Such a captivating moment at any outdoor wedding!

We’ve sourced the absolute most perfect burgundy shade of polish for you, Berry Naughty, from Essie. This luscious, deep berry lacquer provides the perfect pop of burgundy for your wedding day mani/pedi. Who wants this color at their next appointment? (We do!)

The best shade for lips, by Charlotte Tilbury, is Legendary Queen, a globally-gorgeous soft neutral wine shade in matte. You’ll be a beauty queen with this dazzling wedding day lip color:

The #KylieCosmetics Kyshadow pressed powder eye shadow in burgundy (extended palette) is your secret weapon to create the perfect wedding eye.

Another way to incorporate this signature shade is with your wedding shoes! How amazing are these berry-hued heels from Nordstrom? Extravagant laser-cut curlicues add a delicate, feminine look to these scene-stealing sandals.

A bountiful burgundy headpiece is another sure-fire way to bring your color story front and center:

Having your guy in a burgundy tux is also a super awesome idea. Combining your favorite person with your fave color makes all kinds of sense! “Hello world, I love this man. And I love burgundy!”

Adding in some burgundy artwork and furnishings to your reception space can up your wow factor style-wise, plus you can use it to furnish your new house together after the wedding day:

Having a signature cocktail in your vibrant, saturated hue is an entertaining way to reiterate your color palette. This one is the right shade, but you might want to rename it something other than Fearless Redneck:

However you choose to use your color, we know your wedding day is going to be amazing.

March 22, 2018 by An Ion Creative Leave a Comment

Everybody is talking about the latest wedding trend: NEON, which can energize your wedding with an array of high-voltage shades! Let your guests know you heart beats for color by sending out some neon-inspired invites. Take for instance these handmade invites from the talented artistry of Ro from Pigment & Parchment, who says, “color is my love language!” Ours too Ro!

One of the best ways to make a MAJOR neon style statement is to actually put your wedding up in lights with a custom sign! Like one of these ah-mazing designs by Sammy & Lola, a husband and wife team who provides serious wow factor for weddings with their super hip marquee lights. We are #crazyinlove

Christina Anton, the creative genius behind Boo and Boo Factory, specializes in brightly colored statement necklaces, bold neon earrings and such.  Just a quick glance at her worktable sends us into serious neon cravings.

Add any of these Boo and Boo Factory pieces to your wedding day look to express your love of bold hues.

Sprinkle yourself, your ceremony and your reception with lots of brilliant details:

Treat your family and friends to a happy ending with a gorgeous, neon-inspired wedding cake, like these options from Los Angeles cake designer extraordinaire Colin O’Dea from Cakes by Colin. His cakes are all custom designed, one-of-a-kind pieces of art that are full of heart. As Colin says , “the greatest gift anyone can give is a gift made with your own two hands, which is why I pour my heart and soul into every cake.” With a philosophy like that you know these cakes taste as delicious as they look!

And, we love how Colin uses neon with such a delicate hand. His cakes are soooo soft and romantic while still delivering a punch of fun color.

These bright and fun neon cupcakes are from Eat Cake Be Merry:

Neon Lights
Demi Lovato
Baby when they look up at the sky
We’ll be shooting stars just passing by
You’ll be coming home with me tonight
We’ll be burning up like neon lights
Be still my heart ’cause it’s freaking out, it’s freaking out, right now
Shining like stars ’cause we’re beautiful, we’re beautiful, right now
You’re all I see in all these places
You’re all I see in all these faces
So let’s pretend we’re running out of time, of time
Baby when they look up at the sky
We’ll be shooting stars just passing by
You’ll be coming home with me tonight
And we’ll be burning up like neon lights
Baby when they look up at the sky
We’ll be shooting stars just passing by
You’ll be coming home with me tonight
And we’ll be burning up like neon lights
Neon lights
Neon lights
Neon lights
Like neon…

WEDDING INSPO: Artsy & Creative #ArtisticWedding #ColorfulWedding

January 25, 2018 by An Ion Creative Leave a Comment

Artistic, colorful, free-spirited, outside-the-box, different, creative… do these terms describe you dear brides? Then perhaps you will gravitate toward hosting a wild and wonderfully imaginative wedding day. After all, your wedding is your chance to highlight your artsy style for all your loved ones. And pretty sure they won’t be expecting an ordinary event from you! So throw the rules out the window and plan your wedding with abandon using bright colors, whimsical elements, and your very own sense of style.

For your most important style element, your dress, visit your local Bridal Boutique to find something EXTRA, like this one from Lillian West. This crocheted gown features a geometric fit and flare with an endlessly romantic feeling. And, it is accented with a detachable stretch off the shoulder cape. You heard right, a BRIDAL CAPE!

For your out-of-the-box bridal hair style try loose and natural, or top things off with a fun floral crown. Or, turn up a traditional bridal updo with a fun hair color. Your bun might be pinned like Aunt Sarah’s was, but pretty sure her hair wasn’t purple!

Other ways to infuse your wedding day look with inventiveness….Tie a beaded sash around your head instead of wearing a veil. Add just a few rainbow touches to a neutral bridal mani. Go colorful with your bridal makeup.

Give your invites a hand-lettered flair by using a handy guide to address your envelopes. Use your artistic skills and hustle yourself up a hand painted backdrop, like the one shown below from apartmenttherapy.com. Consider using an ombre tablescape to add tons of interest to your tables, like the one below from a wedding that was held in the Thompson Landry Art Gallery and styled by premier wedding and event designer Rachel A. Clingen.

Here is another view of Rachel’s fantastical ombre tablescape and a look at how artistic an actual art gallery is as a venue:

For your bouquet, try an exuberant mix of flowers. Or, you could use one of Paper and Peonies inspired paper bouquets. Accent your bouquet with colorful ribbons for even more personality.

Your best day ever needs the perfect playlist, so we’ve compiled a few songs you’ll love.

Your decor is the perfect opportunity to mix in colors and textures you love. A line of brightly pained tin cans with simple plantings communicates a sense of playfulness and creativity. You can literally transform items from your recycling bin into adorable table decor. “How did she think of that,” your guests will be saying. “What a great idea!” The plantings could also double as wedding favors, too. Paper garlands, tissue flowers and bunting can also be made in advance of your wedding in any color and pattern your heart desires. Swag those puppies all around your event space to dress it up. (And, we’re certain you’ll find ways to incorporate that decor into your own space after wedding day!)

Paintings, floral elements, bright colors and whimsy all add up to a special day no one will ever forget.

Your wedding cake is another chance to showcase your artistic proclivities. A three tiered white cake by Hey There Cupcake goes Jackson Pollock with splashes of vibrant color. Or, an off-center cubist stack of deliciousness provides tons of visual interest. More sculpture than wedding cake, this striking creation, “Gilded Earth cake,” is by Nevie-Pie Cakes. Turquoise cake stand available here.

For favors, consider wee little paintings that double as place cards, fun little Flamingo bottle openers or watercolor votives.

Or send your folks home with some sweet packages of crayons. They will have been so inspired by your beautiful wedding they might just get creative themselves. Also, a guestbook where the guests color themselves is a tremendously cool option from SomethingTurquoise.com.

And instead of rice, have your friends and family shower you with colorful sprinkles. You and your fiancee can start your married life under a joyful shower of colorful, candy stars. That sounds pretty romantic, doesn’t it?
